Ta Cenc - The Beaury of Ta CencTa’ Cenc is a site of ecological, historical, geological, archaeological and geomorphologic importance. This site offers a very interesting garigue habitat and the cliff area is important for various species of birds such as the scarce spectacled warbler, the corn bunting and the blue rock thrush. This site includes a rich Mediterranean plant biodiversity in its garigue and rupestral habitats with several rare and endemic species such as the National Maltese plant Rock Centaury. This makes the site a prime Eco-tourism area for those looking for a unique experience during their visit to the Maltese Islands. Ta’ Cenc Cliffs is 470 ft above sea level. From the edge of these cliffs one has a majestic view of the sea beneath. Years ago people used to go down these cliffs by means of ropes in order to fish with rods. At Ta’ Cenc Plateau one can find some prehistoric remains of Neolithic times. Of interest to the archaeologist is Imramma Temple Stone Age remains of a construction which once must have been an important place of worship. At a stone’s throw on the right, one can see some cart tracks used by Neolithic People. At Ta’ Cenc one can also see three dolmens in a good state of preservation and some other ruins. It is usually held that these were monuments erected over the groves of important personages. One of them ‘The Lady’s Abode’ is situated on the rocks facing the village of Xewkija. A large part of the area of Ta’ Cenc has been developed into a five star hotel, which is dominated by a manor house known as Palazzo Palina. Some roads have been constructed on Ta’ Cenc one of which stretches from the hotel to Imgarr Ix-Xini, alongside these roads there is a zone for villas and a small road leading to a private beach ‘Il-Kantra’. Another road overlooks the coastline. Lately the MEPA’s Authority responsible for protecting the national environment, has proposed this area as a possible site for a golf course.
