The annual Gozo Motor Show was held on June at the Villa Rundle Gardens. As in previous years, its great success was the result of months of preparations and hard work of a group of dedicated people. The main aim of the show was to provide a one-stop opportunity for potential new car buyers to be able to view what is available at the local dealers. The dealers were there to answer questions and demonstrate the special features of the individual vehicles. There were also representatives from local banks to provide details of related services such as car loans. Dealers who took part showed many brands and models including Eucharist Mercieca Auto Dealer who showed several Toyota models, sharing the stand with Kinds Auto Sales Ltd who showed the latest Mercedes models; V.J. Borg Ent. Ltd who gave visitors the opportunity to see a close-up of the Jaguar X-Type and the Volvo C70 Convertible; Arkadia Motors who entered with the ever-popular Freelander and Tasika who showed the new Subaru Tribeca. There were also two dealers from Malta - Ucim Co. Ltd. with their Fiat models and Bonnici Brothers Limited with their much admired DAF and CAT vehicles. Motorcycle enthusiasts also had much to see at the High Revs stand which had on show many different types of bikes and bike accessories. Besides being a showcase of cars available for sale on the island, the show also included a demonstration from the local Model Cars Club who shared their hobby of remote-controlled model cars with the visitors to the show. There was also a selection of Vintage cars owned by local aficionados which proved to be a big attraction for young and old alike. This year to make the show more of a family attraction and for the first time, there was a whole afternoon of entertainment suitable for all the family. This included a song festival of 22 local singers which provided another opportunity for the public to appreciate and admire our very many talented youths. A competition was very ably compered by Deborah Cassar who also entertained the audience with her own beautiful singing voice. A delightful exhibition of dances was given by the young and talented dancers of Anettes Mystic Dancers. Another popular event was the fashion show by Exquisite whose outfits and models were real crowd-pleasers. The organizers said that, such a show would not be possible if it was not for the co-operation from the local car dealers. Thanks goes out to the group of volunteers, namely, Carmel Formosa, Carmel Grima, George Pace and Giovanni N. Zammit, for giving so many hours of their free time to make the event possible. Thanks also to the hard-working group of members of the Kercem Ajax FC who spent so many hours prior, during and after the event in setting up and dismantling the show and needless to say, the general public who supported the event by attending the show, ensuring that the event remains on the Gozo yearly calendar as it has for the past 14 years.
